Williams Club of Farnham July 2023

The Williams Club of Farnham ended it’s 2023 summer season with a delightful trip to Bognor Regis. Following light refreshments at the Beachcroft Hotel upon arrival, members took a stroll along the seafront. There was bright sunshine accompanied by a wonderfully warm but very bracing wind. Noone was quite brave enough to dip their toes in the sea as the waves were crashing and the current too strong. However, the change of atmosphere with the smell of the sea and the seaside sounds, was a real treat for everyone, not least those with sight loss. Returning to the Beachcroft, a fabulous meal was served before the journey home. All in all, it amounted to a fun day out.

In June Farnham Rotary Club provided a lovely strawberry tea at Froyle Village Hall, with a surprise visit by Farnham Mayor Cllr Alan Earwaker. The previous month had seen a visit by David Munro who gave a talk about the much-valued Talking Newspaper (FATN). In May, the Williams Club members themselves took time out from having entertainment provided, and shared their own memories and life experiences with fellow members.

We have been delighted to welcome a number of new members, and also a new secretary (Mike O’Brien) who will take over from Bob Lampard at the end of 2023 – thank you Mike! The next Williams Club meeting will be held in September when we will welcome back Bishop Christopher Herbert. By popular demand he has been persuaded to do ‘Part 2’ of ‘What Does A Bishop Do All Day?’. Another favourite will return at the October meeting where the great Mr Geoff Hiscott will provide the entertainment. November will see a talk by Michael A’Bear about Dunston and Glastonbury Abbey. His talks are always very informative and entertaining whatever the subject. Each of these events will be followed with a special tea provided by one of local service groups or churches for which we are always extremely grateful.

To end 2023 there will be the Christmas Party with musical entertainment provided by local 60s cover band Out Of The Shadows.

The Williams Club meets on the first Wednesday afternoon of each month (except for August). Membership is free and we welcome anyone with any kind of visual impairment to come along.
